About the Glazes
At Brier Street Pottery, as you can see, we only use a limited number of glazes. These glazes, in my opinion, satisfy all of my requirements . These requirements include: Stability, food safety, ease of reproduction and of course, artistic quality.
One of the major forces behind my artistic vision of the pottery is to let the clay and the glazes be in control of the finished product to the largest extent that I can. To fulfill this- I let the glazes run in the ways that they want, along with also letting the glazes choose the coverage over the clay that they want. In my pieces you will find glorious glaze runs with thousands of shade variations, textural differences that will delight the fingers, and areas where the glaze moved away allowing the clay to be seen, and felt in all of its glory. I truly try to only be the facilitator of each piece in fullfilling its final shape!
